Oprah Winfrey had a few special guests on her TV show on Wed Nov 10th – in her 25th and final season with the show, Oprah invited those talk show hosts who had paved the way before her – Sally Jessy Raphael, Montel Williams, Ricki Lake, Geraldo Rivera and Phil Donahue to sit down and talk about their life after being a daytime talk show host.
Raphael, now 65, left daytime TV some 8 years ago, and is remembered for her red glasses, revealed on Oprah’s show that she is planning to make a comeback to TV in a showed called “I’m Still Sally”. Raphael said that the show is touted to be a partially scripted show about of all things “a talk show host who is asked to leave the air and what happens to her after that”!
Ricki Lake, now 42 and a single mother to two children, revealed on the show yesterday that she is both keeping busy “reinventing” herself professionally and had fallen in love with a guy who “… treats me the way I deserve to be treated. He put me on a pedestal”.
Phil Donahue, whose daytime talk show career spanned 27 years from 1969 to 1996, said that although he did almost 5000 shows, when he left the voice inside his head said “sit down, they’ve heard you speak”. These days, he accompanies his wife, actress Marlo Thomas (of ‘That Girl’ fame) on her book tour.
